1. Who we are
Laurelia is operated by Gao Studios (Edgar Gaona), a sole proprietor based in Seattle, Washington, USA. You can reach us at privacy@laurelia.app.
2. What data we collect
Account data — When you sign up, we collect your email address. If you use Apple Sign In or Google Sign In, we receive the email address from those providers.
Photos — Photos you select for analysis are compressed on your device and uploaded to temporary storage (AWS S3). They are automatically deleted within 24 hours via a lifecycle policy. We never store your original photos permanently.
Analysis results — Scores, captions, and story arc data you generate are stored in our database so you can access them later.
Friend Vote data — When you create a vote link, we store the photo paths and vote responses. When someone votes, we store their email address if provided.
Aesthetic profile — If you complete the style quiz, your aesthetic preference is stored in your account metadata to personalise AI scoring.
Usage analytics — We use Mixpanel to understand how the app is used (e.g. which screens are visited, which features are used). No photo content is sent to Mixpanel.
Error data — We use Sentry to track crashes and errors. Error reports may include device type, OS version, and app state. No photo content is included.

3. How we use your data
- To provide the AI photo scoring and caption generation service
- To store and display your past analyses
- To process Friend Vote links and notify you of results
- To manage your subscription via RevenueCat and the Apple App Store
- To send transactional emails (vote notifications, receipts) via Resend
- To improve the app based on anonymised usage patterns
4. AI processing
Your photos are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for scoring and caption generation. This processing happens server-side via our Edge Functions — your photos are accessed via presigned URLs that expire within seconds after use. Anthropic's privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/privacy.
5. Data sharing
We share your data only with the following service providers, strictly to provide the service:
- Supabase — database, authentication, Edge Functions
- AWS S3 — temporary photo storage (us-east-1), auto-deleted within 24 hours
- Anthropic — AI photo scoring and caption generation
- RevenueCat — subscription management
- Apple App Store — payment processing for subscriptions
- Resend — transactional email delivery
- Mixpanel — anonymised usage analytics
- Sentry — crash and error tracking
6. Data retention
Analysis results are stored until you delete your account. Photos are deleted from storage within 24 hours of upload. Friend Vote sessions expire after 72 hours and are fully deleted within 30 days. If you delete your account, all your data is permanently removed within 7 days.
7. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access a copy of your personal data — email privacy@laurelia.app
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data (available in-app under Profile → Delete Account)
- Opt out of analytics by contacting privacy@laurelia.app
- Withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account
8. Children
Laurelia is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us their information, contact privacy@laurelia.app and we will delete it promptly.
9. Push notifications
If you enable push notifications (e.g. vote alerts, post timing reminders), you can disable them at any time in iPhone Settings → Notifications → Laurelia.
10. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption in transit, encrypted storage, row-level security on our database, and server-side-only API key handling. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you via email or an in-app notice at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
